This one made me rather sad.

Dear son, you are right, if you don't play sports your dad will not love you as much. I know, he told me. Please play sports, PLEASE TRY. It will make it easier on you, and the other kids wont pick on you so much if you could. I WILL LOVE YOU NO MATTER WHAT. I MEAN THIS I LOVE YOU JUST THE WAY YOU ARE, BUT A MOTHERS MOM ISNT ENOUGH. i could never really say this to my son, and i am so sad that his life is a cold unfriendly place. Im sorry your sister is so successful and popluar and pretty, and you are slipping further and further. I will always be there for you, but facts are facts.

The comments on this one aren't worth posting, but not the point.

Its kids like this that commit suicide. I've seen it happen many times. I've read it. I don't think kids, especially teens, should have to live up to such a standard. There's a reason sports are EXTRA CURRICULAR activities. They don't have to be played and there are others who don't play them. Yeah, sports stars make ALOT of money and can get you an easy scholarship, but other things do that too such as DECA or UIL academics. =P

It just makes me so mad when teens can't and won't be accepted by anyone because their parent's standards. I don't think this kid will have a happy life. He will never think he's good enough.

I'm all for extra curricular, but that doesn't mean you have to play sports. I'd rather be the geek in high school that travels the world as a successful adult than a jock that peaks at 19.

I agree, this kid could be in a world of danger that sister, dad and even mom is helping him slip deeper into. Sad

sounds like my husband. he doesnt feel he's good enough cause he was treated like crap his whole life and told he was nothing. now he's a wonderful soldier..theyre proud of him NOW. but all the damage they did will never be fully undone. it makes my blood boil. i wish they could meet the higher ups that he works with. whenever they meet me all i hear is praise at what a great soldier he is and how proud i should be and i tell them that i already am. i hate parents like this. no matter what my daughter chooses to be i will be with her 100%

I do not like when parents project their dreams onto their kid by doing this stuff...that sad...

I will try and get my kids involved in stuff. I will not force them to do it forever...but to make them play soccer or practice tuba for a school year can't actually hurt them & if they don't like it, at least they can say they don't like it with conviction. Plus...you might make them play soccer for a season...and while they are playing they decide they like playing a team sport...but they would rather play field hockey or basketball.

My brothers needed music credits, so my mom put them in piano lessons. They hated it, but she made them finish out their year. Shortly after, a friend handed a guitar to one of them & they both took it up. One took bass, on took electric. They actually did really well with those, and had they not had some kind of musical training, they might not have picked it up quickly enough to enjoy it. And for their additional credits, guitar was acceptable.

If, after the season or school year ended my child did not want to do it anymore...I would not make them continue.

We plan on sticking aria in gymnastics at four or so. =P We already see her enjoying this kind of thing and what not. If she doesn't like it, then we wont continue, and maybe she'll find something else she likes. Although, finding something she likes will not come easily, i'm sure.

=P One time deal is all needed to decide. I can convince her to join groups, sports, and related, but I will never force a decision on her.

That's the way I was. I enjoyed a lot of things, but nothing was really IT for me. I didn't discover my passion until just recently.
If my husband EVER told me he wouldn't love our child as much if he or she didn't do sports or whatever, I would divorce his ass in a heartbeat.

My husband is weird about ROTC...saying our kids will HAVE to attend a school that offers AirForce or Army ROTC. I told him he could kiss my butt.
